Every finish trade depends on the framing being right. Drywall that waves, tile that cracks, and cabinets that gap at the wall all trace back to framing that was out of plumb, out of level, or inadequately blocked. Our rough carpentry crews build frames that finish trades can work from without corrections.
We perform wood and metal stud framing for interior partition walls, structural modifications including header installation and wall removal, floor system framing, stair rough framing, blocking installation for future fixtures, and exterior rough carpentry for additions and new construction.
In Chicago's existing housing stock — greystones, two-flats, and vintage frame homes — rough carpentry also means correcting what was built wrong. Out-of-plumb walls, deflected floor joists, and deteriorated structural members are common discoveries during gut renovations. We assess, report, and correct.

Our Process
Layout & Review
We review architectural drawings, confirm dimensions on-site, and lay out all walls before cutting material. Any conflicts with existing structure or utilities are flagged before framing begins.
Structural Work First
Headers, beams, and any structural modifications are completed and inspected before partition framing proceeds. No shortcuts on load path.
Partition Framing
All walls framed plumb and square. Blocking installed at all specified locations — cabinet hang points, TV mounts, accessory locations, and grab bars.
Inspection Ready
Framing is left clean and accessible for rough inspection. We coordinate with the GC or directly with the inspector to get sign-off before drywall.
Frequently
Asked Questions
Most clients have the same questions before starting. Here are straightforward answers — no hedging.
Still have questions? Let's talkWood stud framing is standard for exterior walls, load-bearing interior walls, and most residential applications. Metal stud framing is common for non-load-bearing interior partitions, particularly in commercial and multifamily construction. Metal studs are straighter, lighter, and resistant to moisture and pests. In Chicago renovation work, both are used depending on the application and building type.
