Bucktown Master Bathroom Renovation

This master bathroom renovation in Bucktown, Chicago was designed to create a space that feels calm, elevated, and highly functional for everyday living. At 32 Build, we approached this project with a focus on combining bold cabinetry, warm metal finishes, and comfort-driven upgrades to deliver a bathroom that feels both luxurious and practical. The finished space features navy blue painted cabinets, a soaking tub, brass hardware and fixtures, integrated lighting in the mirrors, and heated floors.

Bucktown, Chicago
Challenge

The design direction called for dark cabinetry, warm brass, and a soaking tub — a combination that can easily tip into feeling heavy or dated. The balance came from keeping the tile palette restrained, integrating lighting into the mirrors rather than relying on overhead fixtures alone, and spacing the vanity and tub so the room retained visual breathing room.

It's easier to add contrast than to pull it back once the work is done.

Bucktown Master Bathroom Renovation
Approach

Our approach focused on making bold material choices work together rather than compete. Navy blue painted cabinetry was the anchor decision — it gave the vanity area depth and presence without overwhelming the room. From there, we built the rest of the palette around it: warm brass hardware and plumbing fixtures, a light neutral tile that let the cabinetry read clearly, and integrated mirror lighting that added function without cluttering the wall.

The soaking tub was positioned to create a clear spa zone within the room, and heated floors were added to make the daily experience match the visual quality of the finishes. The goal was a bathroom that felt considered and finished — where every element served both the design and the function of the space. That standard guided every selection from the cabinetry color through the final hardware installation.

Scope

The scope of work for this Bucktown master bathroom remodel covered all finish work and fixture installations needed to transform the primary bathroom from a dated, functional space into a polished, design-forward room. The project included full tile work throughout the floor and wet areas, custom navy blue painted cabinetry at the vanity, a freestanding soaking tub installation, a new shower with tile surround, brass plumbing fixtures and hardware, integrated lighting within the mirrors, and heated floor installation throughout. Each selection was made to work as a cohesive whole rather than as individual upgrades — the navy cabinetry, brass fixtures, and warm tile tones were chosen together. The result is a bathroom that feels fully custom and functions well for daily use.

Neighborhood

They notice when tile lines don't run level and when grout joints aren't consistent. The standard of execution has to match the investment.
